Art Project - Mushroom House
Most kids LOVE to draw or paint mushrooms. The shapes are simple and they can be done in any colour. They’re actually fun to paint at any age. So, when I was planning my art camp, I thought it would be cool to turn a mushroom into a home.
The Goal:
To let your imaginations go wild. What’s your dream Mushroom House?
The Materials:
Watercolour paint and colour pencils.
If you want to look at different mushrooms, here’s a link to my Mushroom references on Pinterest.
The Process:
Start by sketching out your ideas. Don’t get too detailed or you’re not going to want to start your final Mushroom House. I see it all the time.
You can lightly pencil in your main mushroom shapes on your nice watercolour paper or in your sketchbook. I do final artwork in my sketchbooks all the time, even if it’s not watercolour paper.
Paint the basics of your mushroom. I like to use watercolours, it’s my favourite base to my artwork because it’s matte and easy to blend and layer.
Next, you can add additional texture markings and shading using your favourite tools. I love using my colour pencils to add some shading and detailed lines and then finish it off with some neocolor ii wax pastel markings for a pop of colour.

How you finish this art project will be completely yours, even if you do exactly what I did, and that’s something to celebrate. Share your art with me on Instagram and I’ll share with my friends! This is Hester Hamilton’s Mushroom house.
