Hi! I’m glad you’re here.
My name is Brina Schenk and I live and work in Fernie, BC, Canada, but I was born in the ‘Shwa’ (Oshawa), Ontario. Many steps and moves were made up until this point but it wasn’t until I started a daily sketchbook art practice in mixed-media, 3 years ago, when I began to explore and grow my love of colours, layers, and textures. This important and personal art practice pushed me to work without expectations and fear. Now I want to share my love of art with others by offering art classes, art inspiration, workshop facilitations, commissions, and live wedding and event painting.
My Creative Side
I started My Creative Side, a blog with a growing collection of art project ideas, art inspiration, and drawing prompts, to help you get started in your watercolour and mixed-media journey. Sometimes just figuring out what to paint is the hardest part!
I have also created a sister blog Brina’s Creative Side which has MORE art projects, inspiration, and drawing prompts. Live Wedding Painting - Guest Portraits and Portraits
This wasn’t my idea but I fell in love with it immediately. A couple, who were getting married in Fernie, asked if I could paint portraits of their guests at their wedding and I said “Yes. I can!” and then figured out how I could do that. I put a lot of hours into practicing painting portraits efficiently with faces, something a lot of event portraits artists don’t do.
My recently updated branding represents the areas I love to explore most - people, nature, and places.
Multiple Disciplinary
I have been focusing on visual arts and art instruction these days but in the past I was a graphic designer, graphic artist, blogger, digital artist, animator, storyteller, book designer, physics textbook illustrator, event stationery designer, and so much more. There wasn’t anything I would say no to.
I haven’t stopped working as a designer and illustrator for businesses big and small. If you want to look through previous work, check out my portfolio.
Also, I am obsessed with Pickleball, I love sitting around a campfire with friends and family, I get a kick out of my kids’ sense of humour, I look forward to my morning coffee with my husband, I started a monthly article for Fernie Fix called The Playful Artist in 2026, I love meals served in a handmade ceramic bowl, and I am inspired by all the everyday, ordinary moments in our daily lives.
