Mark Making
I find just the act of mark making to be one of the most meditative and relaxing art practices. It’s the act of making marks on a page, in any way you like. Easy. Right? The way I do it, in my art practice, is I fill a page with watercolour paints and then I add random lines, dots, and shapes on top, using a variety of art tools.
When do I use marking making?
• This is also how I create a lot of my textures, to show movement, fabric patterns, shading, and reflections in my artwork.
• When I purchase a new art tool I like to find out how it works with other art materials so I fill a page in my sketchbook and cover it in random markings. It’s the best way to find out how this tool can help you in your artwork.
