Art Project - Polar Bear with Salty Sky
The polar bears are the easy part. This piece is more about exploring the sky and trying to find the colour and textures you want to use. In our art classes we used salt and tissue paper to create texture in the sky. Original artwork found on Pinterest, unknown original artist.
The Goal:
Try new ways to add texture to your watercolours using different materials - salt, tissue, an old toothbrush, a sponge.
The Materials:
I used watercolour paint, coloured pencils, and salt, and other items you find to create texture.
The Process:
Paint the sky in blues (or another colour!) around the polar bears. I like to start creating texture with my paint. I do this by starting with a lot of paint on my brush and then water it down. While it’s wet I might add a darker shade of the colour I started with or mix in another colour for a bit of variety.
While the paint is still wet, try applying your texture materials. I sprinkled salt on mine.
When the paint and salt has dried up, brush it off to review your new textured sky.
Finish the polar bears with a simple face and ears.
